Miniature Railway Track

What type of track is right of your needs? At MRW we offer a wide range of track types which are suitable for a variety of miniature railway needs.

Portable Track

Offered in two types, Jubilee and Click & Play, these products are designed to be laid for no more than a week or so at a time and can be laid in a matter of minutes. They can be laid anywhere where there is level and firm ground for temporary garden railways, for events and shows and in some instances, for commercial passenger carrying set-ups. They are easy to transport, quick to lay, but aspects of their design such as thin walled steel (Jubilee) or lightweight rail construction (Click & Play) make them unsuitable for long term exposure to the elements and very large locos.

Semi-Permanent Track

Semi-permanent track is suitable for leaving outside for long periods, but can be taken up and laid elsewhere whilst retaining its original shape and form. This type of track is perfect for gardens, estates and commercial operations where it might need to be lifted in the long term. Our newest range, named the ‘Britannia’ semi-permanent range, follows the set panel size system of the Jubilee, is robust in its welded panel design, is ready to lay in its pre-made panel form and can last the test of time due to its bar rail construction. Sections can also be removed with relative ease, allowing the layout of the railway to be changed, and the likes of points added at a later date. Whilst this track requires ballast, groundwork and maintenance, its rigid form helps to mitigate defects and this is an excellent choice for any mid to long term railway installation.

Britannia

Permanent Track

Permanent track is built primarily using traditional profile rail, chairs and sleepers to hold the gauge, just like with full sized railways. It looks the part and mimics the feel of a full sized railway for customers who care about the details. To be successful in the long term, it requires excellent groundwork and dedicated maintenance to address ballast issues which form over time. Using larger rail profiles can reduce issues, so careful consideration should be taken during the planning process. MRW currently offer 16mm aluminium rail, with larger profiles available upon request.
