A 7 ¼ gauge driving truck designed to complement most locomotives of either steam or electric. The driving truck was developed to provide a comfortable ride and robust operation for regular use on the club track or the garden railway.

Storage facilities are provided under the seat and further storage for coal etc can be provided above the footrests. Braking is by disc brake on the rear axle and the brake handle can be fitted on either side. This operates the brake calliper if pushed forward or pulled back. Vacuum actuator or Vacuum pump options are available - see details below.

The running boards are pre-fitted, meaning that there is no construction required to begin the use of the driving truck. The driving truck comes with a brake lever that can be used to apply the brakes - pressure is required to keep the brakes applied. If you require a parking brake then please select the “Locking parking brake upgrade” option.

As standard the driving truck is fitted with a lever brake but this can be swapped out for a Vacuum actuator for an additional cost.

For a Vacuum pump to be fitted to the driving truck complete with control valve this is easily possible - Please note batteries are not included for the pump.

Material: The all steel construction with laser cut slotted panels in 6mm for the chassis and 3mm for the seat box makes a robust and solid truck capable of many years of hard work. The generously proportioned seat enables the driver to adopt a comfortable driving position with plenty of room for large boots on the footrests. The frames are mild steel with EN8 wheels and axles.

Finish: Powder coated body and black frames, available in a body colour finish of your own choice.

Kit options

To buy as a kit please contact us directly to discuss your requirements. For a painted kit which you assemble yourself this is £25 less from the RtR list price.

We care about the details

There is provision for safety chains on both ends of the truck which is a very unusual feature for the industry but mandatory at most clubs! Due to the use of die springs the suspension rates can be changed to suit the rider for a stable ride. It is very challenging to specify a spring suitable for the range of driver weights that the product can accommodate. If you feel the springing is too soft or hard for your requirements, please get in touch.

Coupling options

As standard the driving trucks are built with a multi height slot narrow gauge coupling. On special order the trucks can also be supplied with sprung buffers and a single slot coupling for chain coupling or bar coupling.

Details about the design and manufacture

The wheel sets are CNC machined in the UK then pressed and locktighted to the axle. The laser cut frames are powder coated whilst the mechanism is bare metal to be oiled regularly.
