Class 42 Warship 7 1/4" gauge Ready-To-Run (Bo-Bo)
See one in action here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sE27EEzJAII
Built here at MRW, this is a powerful large locomotive with either two or four 24V 1HP motors run from two large lead acid batteries. Each axle is chain driven from the motor hence the Warship in 7 ¼” gauge has all its wheels powered. Simply add batteries and enjoy a loco which looks great and works perfectly. The model has been sold into many countries and has proved to be a robust and reliable performer equally at home on the club track or garden railway.
The Class 42 Warship is available in 7¼” gauge and features 2hp of passenger hauling power. A full size locomotive was surveyed to ensure accurate representation of the body and additional detailing using etched nickel window frames and grilles make the Warship a fine looking scale loco as well as a very capable passenger hauling loco.
The Warship is a seriously strong and capable locomotive which has been proven to be a long running dependable model used by many individuals, clubs and even some light commercial passenger carriage where a fine looking scale locomotive is required.
Please note we do not currently offer a 5” version of this loco.

We care about the details
The windows are glazed with plastic to give a realistic appearance with the window frames to mimic the real thing. We also offer an optional Sound system, LED Marker lights and buffer beam detailing kits (front only.) We can offer scale name plates of an historic locomotive or can also supply custom name plates to your specifications.
Coupling options
As standard the locos are built with traditional sprung buffers and “hook & chain.” If required a multi height slot narrow gauge coupling can be fitted the rear
Sound systems
MTroniks sound systems can be fitted to the loco to give a realistic aspect to the locomotive's operation to mimic the start up sounds of an engine and respond to the input form the controller.
Electronics and controls
The loco are fitted with two tone car horns which give a clear audible warning to anyone within 20m+ of the loco to warn of approach. The loco runs on 24V requiring two 12V batteries housed inside the locomotive when running. (Note batteries are not included)
The locomotive is controlled from a handset which is ergonomically designed to ensure comfortable daily use. The locomotive utilises a dead man's feature so that it will stop if the controller is separated from the driver. The locomotive can be fitted with either a 4QD controller or Mtroniks. If you have preference over which controller is used in your loco, please tell us at the time of your order.
For more info on 4QD controllers or MTroniks please consult their respective websites. www.mtroniks.net www.4qd.co.uk
Details about the design and manufacture
The generous spring allowance gives a comfortable ride and allows the wheels to absorb undulations in the track whilst remaining firmly on the rails. The wheel sets are CNC machined in the UK then pressed and locktighted to the axle. The laser cut frames are powder coated whilst the mechanism is bare metal.
Intended use
This loco is designed to be used as a “hobbyist loco,” hence it does not have completely waterproof electronics and the components are designed for light irregular use as associated with clubs or home garden railways. The loco has not been designed with the intention of daily use and the components have not been specified or designed to be used on a daily basis. If you are looking for a “commercial” locomotive for daily use please do not hesitate to contact us.
Braking
The locomotive has inbuilt regenerative braking from the controllers which helps slow the loco and train but this is no substitute for a handbrake or vacuum brake on the train and driving truck. A vacuum pump should be fitted to the riding truck with associated controls to regulate the vacuum level; this will allow you to run a vacuum-braked train ensuring safe passenger carriage.
Making a purchase
