Miniature locomotives can often actually be quite large, requiring strong muscles to lift them in and out of the back of vans/cars/trailers. To alleviate the back ache, we have designed a simple set of transportation aids to allow you to roll a loco in and out of a vehicle with minimal effort. The product range is split into two main devices: Transporter Track Panels and Loading Bridges (see separateproduct listing).
Transporter Track Panels
Offered in a range of sizes these panels can be bolted down into the vehicle to aid in holding down locomotives and rolling stock. Offered in both 5” and 7 ¼” gauge as individual gauges or dual gauge, the products come in a range of standard sizes;
1M [3’-3”]
1.25M [4'-1"]
1.5M [4'-11"]
1.75M [5’-9”]
2M [6'-7"]
2.25M [7'-5"]
2.5M [8'-2"]
All panels are powder-coated as standard.
They are designed with an incorporated buffer stop and slot/pin for coupling. The products need to be used alongside ratchet straps/chains/clamps which are not provided by MRW; the emphasis is for the user to move miniature locomotives safely. These products are an aid to a market where no off-the-shelf existing transporting products exist but are not a complete solution; it is down to you as the user/operator to ensure they are used safely.
We encourage the fitment of these panels primarily in trailers where consideration of crumple zones to protect passengers is not required. If these panels are to be fitted to a van or car, then you must consider how the panels and vehicle would react in the case of an incident. The practice of transporting locomotives inside a car/van can easily lead to passenger injury in the case of an incident.
Please consider and think about this point carefully before fitment.
Being mild steel, the track will rust if left in damp environments so the user must take reasonable precautions to reduce this. The track is powder coated but this will not protect the internal surfaces. If you intend to use the track in a trailer which is to be stored in a damp environment, then galvanizing is a wise option to utilise wich we can do on a quote basis.
Each product weight is as follows:
1M [3’-3”] - 10kg
1.25M [4'-1"] - 11kg
1.5M [4'-11"] - 13kg
1.75M [5’-9”] - 14kg
2M [6'-7"] - 16.5kg
2.25M [7'-5"] - 14.5kg
2.5M [8'-2"] - 19kg
We do not recommend loading any track panel with more than 1 tone, but importantly the limitations of your Car Van or Trailer will probably be rated to less than the track can take so please ensure that you are working within the limitations of the vehicle. The 1 tone should be evenly distributed over the entire length of the panel and tie down methods directly to the body of the vehicle used rather than tying to the track panel.
If your loco or rolling stock weights more than 1 ton please contact us to discuss your requirements.
Rail material: Hollow box steel (25x25x2mm)
Sleepers: Folded & welded 3mm steel plate.
Please note there is an approximately 2-6 week lead time on this product from payment till dispatch.
This listing is for a single track section, select the number of sections you require from the drop down menu, or contact us for large orders.
Track sections may come with joiners removed to keep down postage costs. To attach these you will simply need a 10mm spanner and 4mm allen key are needed to assemble the joiner to the rail. This is only required to be done on first installation; the joiner may remain with the rail throughout use.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) should be used when installing or using the products.
As standard all MRW track panels are widened this allows for curves to be joined to straights. This widening is within the 7 ¼ gauge society & GL5 standards and should not adversely affect running.
