Drop-On Turntable 5" & 7 1/4" - Scamp and Short Wheelbase Rolling Stock
Special Order 10 1/4" Version Available
These turntables were conceived originally for the Scamp by its revered designer Colin Edmondson but are equally useful for short wheelbase locos and rolling stock. MRW are delighted to be manufacturing these products in partnership with Colin right here in our Nottinghamshire workshop.
These turntables are based on historic portable turntables used for manual shunting on narrow gauge temporary railways. Thy are extremely versatile and can be placed almost anywhere on a track, allowing locos and rolling stock to be turned in any direction to be moved onto another line, or even simply back in the direction they came. The turntables can also be used as a low cost alternative to a set of points where applicable, making them an excellent tool at the disposal of anyone with a desire to break up rolling stock, load locos and wagons as a one man operation, or simply have fun with their Scamp on a running day!
Suitability
The turntables are suitable for locomotives and rolling stock with a maximum spacing of the outer wheelsets of 390mm (15.25"), or 540mm (21.25") for the 7 1/4" heavy duty variant. The turntables are of highly robust design and provided they are used without a person sat on the loco/stock it will happily take the weight of an item of rolling stock up to 100kg, or 150kg for the heavy duty variant, on stable and level ground.
The increased length both for rolling stock and rails, allows the 7 1/4" heavy duty turntable to be an incredibly versatile piece of equipment. Deeper rails and additional stretchers create a product that can work like a low-level bridge as much as a turntable and allow the movement and shunting of locos in all manner of environments. The heavy duty 7 1/4" turntable is an excellent accompaniment to a portable line where space is tight and rolling stock needs to be shifted and loaded, with the same being said for loading at permanent sites.
