This listing is for a single track section, select the number of sections you require from the drop down menu, or contact us for large orders.
Track sections may come with fishplates removed to keep down postage costs. To attach these you will simply need two 8mm spanners/sockets to assemble the fishplates and a file to clean away any marks and burrs left by the laser cutter. This is only required to be done on first installation; the fishplates may remain with the rail throughout use.
A standard track section weighs approximately 10kg and requires careful handling to avoid injury. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) should be used when laying or moving the track, for more advice please refer to the ‘Operating Instructions for laying Britannia Track’ the full version can be found on MRW website.
As standard all MRW Britannia track panels are widened by 2.3mm [ 3/32" ] this allows for curves to be joined to straights. This widening is within the normal amount for 7 1/4 inch gauge standards and should also minimize wear of the root radius of rolling stock wheel profiles.
Assembling and packing Britannia Track to ensure it is level
Britannia track panels are stronger than conventional profile track panels but still require a very level base for them to be laid upon. The track is designed to be sunk into ballast with appropriate foundations constructed. The track can be laid in a “temporary” fashion using wooden blocks for packing but it requires much more careful packing than our Jubilee track range as they are more flexible. Britannia track should be laid on a flat and level surface with minimal changes to gradient. Good groundwork must be used wherever the ground is uneven.
It is the responsibility of the operator to ensure the products have been properly installed. Liberal application of waterproof grease on the contact surfaces of the fishplates is important for the long term serviceability of this product and will also help the rails to move during expansion and contraction based on weather conditions. To this point, ensure the bolts are tightened to no more than 5Nm of torque.
Monitoring your Britannia Track
The track is designed to be hard wearing and suited to continued outdoor use with exposure to average UK weather. It is however necessary to constantly monitor the track, also look for signs of extensive rust, with particular attention required after periods of prolonged use and exposure to the elements. For more details please refer to the ‘Operating Instructions for laying Britannia Track’ the full version can be found on MRW website.
Transportation & storage of Britannia track
