7 1/4 gauge 0-4-0 Vulcan Loco "Herbie B" Battery Electric

These Vulcan locomotives were sold as “kits” by Graham Prestwich engineering and hence a full set of drawings were often supplied to go with the loco. Each part of these locos were sturdily built and built to last. We know of many of these locos that have been running for many years with very minimal maintenance and still able to perform as well as they did when new.

Judging by its condition this loco was built around the 2000’s and has seen some use but is still in a very good condition and ready to go to the track after a full rewire and freshen up here at MRW.

 

The loco comes complete with two substantial deep cycle lead acid batteries which take the total loco weight at least 100kg, which is significantly heavier than most modern 0-4-0 locos, giving excellent traction allowing it to happily pull two medium sized coaches all day long even on modest gradients. Supplied with a battery charger for easy plug in charging without the need to remove the bonnet to charge the batteries.

 

This Vulcan is fitted with large dumb buffers and a sprung pin and slot coupling. The body is of steel construction with a spray paint finish to a good standard, fully sprung wheelsets and powered through a Parkside controller. Note the controller is capable of giving regenerative braking but the handset doesn't have that functionality. This could be swapped out for a parkside regenerative brake handset, or alternatively we could retrofit a 4QD controller in an afternoon.
