220 Classic Bearing Oil
Bearing 220 is a free flowing oil at room temperature but when heated becomes even more free flowing. This makes it ideal for heritage steam applications especially ones where conventional Wick/felt pads are employed to draw the oil into the bearings. This oil is applicable for miniature steam but has been found to be too free flowing for some miniature applications. Please study the full description.

We supply either 220 or 460 bearing oils. The lubrication properties are both very similar but the way they behave/flow is different. The 220 is a free flowing oil at room temperature but when heated becomes even more free flowing. This makes it ideal for heritage steam applications especially ones where conventional Wick/felt pads are employed to draw the oil into the bearings. This oil is applicable for miniature steam but has been found to be too free flowing for some miniature applications. For example where an axle box has no wicks or felts used and may become hot with its proximity to the fire box; in this scenario the oil pots would need re-filling more often than practical, for example every 30 minutes in some user cases.
220 is ideally suited to bearings where heat is not a factor on miniature steam and should be the go-to oil for most miniature steam and full size steam applications.

Applications: Recommended for all total loss applications where the special properties of these oils are needed. They can be used for bearings, gears, slides, and general railway applications as well as for use in older types of railway, rolling stock, and axle boxes with plain bearings. Additionally they are recommended for their ability to flow with worsted wool fiber or cotton wick lubricators often found on traction engines and railway rolling stock. At higher ambient temperatures Bearing Oil 460 is recommended to reduce the rate of lubricant loss.
